Match Report - Penrith B Vs Wigton A (11.05.10)
After a long hard winter the tennis season finally began on a cold night at Winters Park on Tuesday. The B team play hosts to an experienced Wigton A side and were unlucky losers 5 – 3 after some closed fought matches. This year the B Team are looking to give some of the juniors their chance with George Cresswell and Fran Wilcox playing. Both played well and won a match each of their two matches. The winning pairs were Richard Morris and Jackie Leah in the mixed doubles, the father and son team of Rob and George Cresswell in the mens doubles and Margaret Cranston and Fran Wilcox in the ladies doubles. There were some close matches that could have gone either way and on another night the result could have easily been a draw or a victory. Next week the B Team host Eden Lawn and are hoping for better luck and a victory.

Third Team Progress Report
Not the best of starts, with 3 defeats so far. However this masks some good tennis, close matches and sometimes grave problems in finding 8 fit bodies. Please note, injuries are banned for the rest of the season. Thanks to Joyce, Margaret and Deborah for the hours spent on phones to produce a team. A big plus from this is the number of players who have played their first match for us and no doubt will play many more. All performed with credit, so welcome Merry, Lorna, Dan, Tom and Patrick. The latter showed us all up when he and Joyce won our only rubber against a strong Wigton side. A special word for young Tom Stewart, who turned out with about half an hour’s warning at Dalston, reluctantly putting aside his homework. He played with great composure, e.g. winning his men’s doubles easily despite having to carry the team geriatric! Next games - Third Team | | May 28th | No Match | | | | June 4th | Home, Dalston D | Men - Rob & George Cresswell, Dan Barry, Tom Stewart | | | June 11th | Home, Wigton B | Men - Rod Yeoman, Richard Dryell, Rob Cresswell, Mark Ferguson | | | June 18th | No Match | | | | June 25th | Away, Dalston D | Team TBA | |
