Introduction

Penrith Lawn Tennis Club originated from a site behind The Dolly Tub, Great Dockray. The club consisted of 4 grass courts and a small pavilion. In the 1960s the land was sold off to be turned into Southend Road Car Park and Penrith Lawn Tennis Club was without a home.

The club continued using the public courts at Castle Park and was given exclusive rights to use them on a Tuesday night for the league matches.

In 1970 the club began to lease some land from Penrith Rugby Club and the existing Penrith Tennis Club was born.
